#5 "Best Friends Forever" p. 11

I think New Pretty Town advocates bungee jumping because it is something for the pretties to do that gives them an adrenaline rush, and makes them feel like there doing something bad and dangerous without actually doing that much.

#4 "Best Friends Forever" p. 11

Tally

  • Ugly
  • Nicknamed Squint
  • Peris is her best friend
  • Has a scar on her hand
  • Tall
  • Rule breaker
  • Wants to be pretty
  • Fit
  • Brave

Peris

  • Pretty
  • Nicknamed Nose
  • Tally is his best friend
  • Had a scar on his hand, but it was removed during surgery
  • Tall & Thin
  • Was a rule breaker
  • Want to be with Tally when she is pretty

I feel that Tally and Peris's friendship was true, but now that Peris has turned pretty, he has been brainwashed into thinking like one. This makes him only want to be friends with Tally if she's pretty, and that is not true friendship. He Should want to be with her even if she is ugly.

#3 "New Pretty Town" p. 3

"She waited peering down the hall anxiously, panting into the hot plastic of her mask. "Ground floor!" she repeated. "Close door!"

Nothing happened.

She sighed, closing her eyes. Without an interface ring, she was nobody. The elevator wouldn't listen."

I chose this as an example of irony because Tally took off her interface ring so she could be free to go see Peris, but then when the pretty boys were chasing her, the elvator didn't see her so she was trapped.

Tally chose to wear a mask to the "white tie" party because she didn't want the pretties to know she was ugly.

This site talks about masks being part of desguises of costumes that are worn over the face and that they are good for hiding any emotions or features on the wearers face. This relates to Tally's descision because the mask hides her ugly features.

#2 "New Pretty Town" p. 3

Well, when I moved from New York to Texas, I left a lot of good freinds behind. I was only 6 or 7, so i dont remember a lot about them, but i do remember a couple. For on there was Megan, we were best friends up until I moved, and we tried to keep in touch by pen-paling. But being the 7 year olds we were we didn't really keep it up for long, but if i could get in touch with her again, i think we would be better at it now. Then there was Taylor. She had a twin sister named Samatha and they would always switch places and cause trouble. Taylor and I were friends, but we always had our fights . . . always . . . Although once she found out I was moving she did get really upset. So, I guess you could say that we did "abandon" our friendship, but for 7 year olds that hardly know how to write, it's hard!

Interface Ring: Something in the future that lets you communicate with machinary.

Toothbrush Pill: A pill that brushes your teeth.

#1 Before Reading

Beauty is something that appeals to all your senses by the many different contrasts of a thing working in perfect harmony within itself. There is also inner beauty that just deals with being yourself and being confident while doing it. Don't be SCURRED!!! XP
I think that if every one in the world was "beautiful" the black pit that is the human race would alternately find other minor differences to ridicule and make people feel unsatisfactory. So honestly I don't think the world would change much.

I think this is beautiful because of all the bold colors and sharp contrasts between the purples, oranges, and blacks. just the plain scene is beautiful too. Imagining what it would be like to really be standing there at the side of a mountain, perfect view of the lake as the descending sun hit it just right. that is beautiful.

I find this picture truly repulsive. The basic color scheme is gray, black, and brown, not to mention what the picture is actually of. If I picture myself here all i could thing about would be the smog infested air burning me from the inside as it enter my throat.
